ICSE Biology Specimen 2027: Official Link & Practice
A 3:1 inheritance ratio describes a probability model. It does not promise exactly three dominant-looking offspring in every group of four.

Find the official specimen first
CISCE’s official ICSE Class X 2027 specimen catalogue lists Biology as Science Paper 3. Open its Biology document for authoritative questions and instructions. This independent companion contains original practice and a revision record; it is not an official solution set, complete syllabus summary or predicted paper.
The catalogue was checked on 1 November 2026. Resource availability supports this upcoming preparation page, while actual rising keyword demand remains unmeasured. Check your school’s current syllabus sequence and the official edition before treating any selected practice as an assessment requirement.
Use a question to expose a reasoning gap
For each attempted official question, record whether you were asked to name, label, compare, explain or infer. A correct term alone may not answer an explain question. Keep your initial diagram or explanation so a later correction shows exactly what changed.
After checking authoritative guidance where supplied, practise a changed case below. Repeating an exact label list is weaker evidence of understanding than explaining what a labelled structure does and why it matters in the given situation.
Transport: keep the substances and tissues distinct
In a simple plant model, xylem transports water and dissolved mineral ions, while phloem mainly transports sugars and other organic substances between sources and sinks. Transpiration concerns water-vapour loss, mainly through stomata; photosynthesis concerns making organic substances using light energy.
A water-transport arrow does not show every substance in the same pathway. When labelling, connect structure, transported material and function. A diagram can simplify a process without claiming it has captured every cellular mechanism or environmental factor.
Osmosis: name the membrane and the comparison
In an introductory cell model, osmosis is net movement of water across a selectively permeable membrane from higher water potential to lower water potential. In simple comparable solutions, this is often described as movement from the more dilute solution toward the more concentrated one.
The water-potential description is more general. Do not say that solute necessarily crosses the membrane, or that every concentration difference guarantees the same response regardless of membrane properties and pressure. In a suitable dilute external solution, a plant cell can become turgid as water enters and the cell wall resists further expansion.
Worked inheritance model: four possible allele pairs
Consider a fictional pea-trait model with complete dominance: T is dominant and t recessive. A Tt × Tt cross gives equally likely combinations TT, Tt, tT and tt. Combining equivalent heterozygotes yields genotype probabilities 1/4 TT, 1/2 Tt and 1/4 tt.
The dominant phenotype probability is 3/4 and recessive phenotype probability 1/4 under the stated model. A small family of four does not have to match 3:1. This is a simplified inheritance model, not a prediction or diagnosis of human traits, which can involve much more complex biology.
Distinguish genotype, phenotype and expected counts
Genotype names the allele combination; phenotype describes the observed trait under the model and conditions. For Tt × tt, the model gives 1/2 Tt and 1/2 tt. In a large hypothetical group of 200, the expected recessive count is 100, but an actual observed count can differ.
Expected value is a model calculation, not a fabricated experimental result. If a question gives observed counts, report them as observations and compare cautiously with the model. Do not relabel a probability as a guarantee or infer an individual’s health from this teaching example.
Make explanations and diagrams usable
Write labels outside a drawing where possible, connect them to the intended feature and avoid crossing leader lines. State the direction of a process with arrows only when that direction is meaningful. A neat picture with a label pointing to the wrong structure is not a correct answer.
Use the revision record to connect an error to a repaired explanation and a changed check. Parents can ask Which assumption makes your probability calculation valid? or Which tissue carries the named material? The selected practice below remains separate from official marking guidance.
